ARMED FORCES WEEKEND

CHILD SAFETY

If you are attending the Armed Forces Weekend in Cleethorpes with your family please take the following precautions: –

  • On arrival take a photograph of your children on your phone.
  • Wristbands are available at Beach Safety if required.
  • Be aware we are expecting large crowds and keep your younger members safe.
  • Arrange a meeting point if your group gets split up.

Taking a photograph of your children will in the unfortunate event of your group separating allow authorities to identify them by the clothing they are wearing on the actual day.

Armed Forces Weekend – Transport information

People are being urged to plan ahead for the Armed Forces Day celebrations this weekend.

Road closures will be in place in the event area across the weekend, with some areas will be closed from Thursday daytime through to Monday lunchtime.

The core area of the Armed Forces weekend, from the library to Brighton Street, and all access on to Alexandra Road and High Cliff Road, will be closed to traffic from Friday at 6am through to Sunday night. That closure will be expanded for Friday and Saturday to include the stretch from the library to Sea Road.

Friday night will also see the return of the Cleethorpes Carnival. A rolling road block will be put in place between Grant Street and the Boating Lake. The parade will form up in Grant Street from 4pm, set off at 6pm, and the rolling road block will travel with the parade to make sure the participants are safe. Outside of the weekend closures, the roads will be reopened as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Saturday will see additional closures being put in place through the morning to make sure the parade route is clear. This will once again include the area from Grant Street, but also take in the area bordered by Cambridge Street and Humber Street. These additional road closures will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so.

Most car parks, with the exception of the Civic, Knoll and Sea View Street Car parks will remain open. Access to the prom parking will be from the Sea Road end, and a diversion will be put in place to access Grant Street car park from Poplar Road. Parking bays will be suspended within the road closures and a tow away zone will be in operation. Parking is also available on Sussex Recreation Ground (entrance off Brereton Avenue).

There are also a number of changes to public transport, either through diversions or because of strike action.

Rail cancellations due to Strike Action.

Following the announcement that the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers) members will be striking on 21, 23 and 25 June the rail industry has introduced a temporary timetable from 21 June to 25 June.

There will be very limited train services running on the rail network during this period so please only travel by train if necessary. If you are ravelling, then please expect severe disruption. It is also recommended for you to
